Our Selection RoomBurial Caskets

Whether you are choosing for yourself or a loved one, the selection of a casket is a personal decision and an expression of your feelings. A casket that reflects your personality or that of your loved one could be a final tribute.

Caskets come in a variety of materials. Metal caskets are manufactured in bronze, copper, stainless steel and steel and are recognized by their unique finishes.

Many prefer hardwood caskets made from oak, pine, mahogany, walnut, cherry, maple, pecan and poplar. Hardwood caskets are the choice for those who appreciate and cherish their beauty and quality.

Due to financial burdens, cloth-covered caskets are also available. These caskets meet the special needs of some families and are manufactured with the same high quality standards as metal and hardwood caskets.

We are very proud of our Selection Room at Lankford Funeral Home and welcome the opportunity to serve you. We have also included a Casket Selection page on our site to assist you in making your decision.

Today more and more families are choosing cremation rather than burial. Although cremation may be chosen as the final disposition, many times a traditional funeral is performed as well. Cremation caskets facilitate this custom and also offer families an alternative to higher cost caskets.

Cremation containers are available in a wide variety of styles and prices and can be categorized in four different groups: traditional wood caskets, wood cremation caskets, hardboard caskets and fiberboard caskets.

Consideration must be given to the type of service or memorial that will take place. If a traditional funeral is planned with the body present, many families prefer a wood cremation casket. If a memorial service is planned, either before or after the cremation takes place, an alternative container is often chosen.

The selection of an urn is important since the urn provides both a protective and dignified receptacle for cremated remains. Urns are made in a variety of styles and materials including cast bronze, wood, marble and sheet bronze.

When selecting an urn, consideration should be given to what will be done with the cremated remains. An urn can be buried in a family plot at a cemetery, placed in a niche, kept at home or scattered over land or water.

Keepsake urns are often purchased to hold a small portion of the cremated remains, even if the majority are scattered or buried. These keepsake urns often become a focal point in the home as a memorial to a loved one.
