February 4, 1918 - October 6, 2007
Michael
G. Prelec, Jr., 89, of Kincaid Road in DeLand, FL passed away Saturday,
October 6, 2007 at Alliance Nursing Center.Visitation will be Tuesday,
October 9, 2007 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home,
220 East New York Ave., DeLand, Fla. Funeral Service will be held
at the Lankford Funeral Home on Wednesday, October10, 2007 at 2:30
p.m. with Deacon Robert Kinsey officiating.
Mr. Prelec established and operated the Deltran
Corp./ Deltona Transformer Company in 1965 and he was a member
of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He served as Past President and
past board member with the DeLand Country Club. He was also a member
of the DeLand Men's Golf Assoc. His other memberships include the
Lake Beresford Yacht Club, United States Power Squadron, Elks Club
#1463, Volusia Manufacturing Assoc., DeLand West Volusia Committee
of 100, DeLand Chamber of Commerce, Florida State Chamber of Commerce
where he was the recipient of Governor's Appreciation Award for
Outstanding Contributions to the State of Florida, and a recipient
of the Detrick Award for his outstanding contributions in the area
of Economic and Community Development. But his favorite club was
the "Friday Night Nickle Poker Club." Mr. Prelec was a World
War II veteran of the Merchant Marines where he received his rank
as Captain.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Prelec
and is survived by his daughters; Diane & Richard West-Criche
of DeLand, Michele & Dan Burns of Delray Beach, Fla., Melodee & Carlos
Clarke, DeLand and his son, Michael & Nancy Prelec of DeLand.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, Darin West, Adam West, Chris
Criche, Curtis Criche, Danielle Burns, Blake Burns, Lisa Burns,
Michael Prelec, Evin Prelec, Chase Clarke and Carson Clarke and
great-grandchildren, Dakota West and Cheyenne West and his caregiver,
Sandy Reid.
