Alex Basso

December 27, 1983 — October 10, 2025

The beautiful and passionate life of Alex Christopher Basso came to a sudden and unexpected end on Friday October 10th, 2025. A fluke accident ended his life far too soon leaving his family and friends mourning this most devastating loss.

Alex was born on December 27, 1983 in DeLand, FL. He lived in Lake Helen most of his life and attended DeLand High School before completing a Culinary Studies degree at Daytona State University. Alex spent much of his adult life working in kitchens, developing flavors, and sharing his love of how good food brings people together.

Alex possessed a mischievous twinkle in his eye, smiling with his whole being. He was as genuine as they come, and lived with a childlike wonder and curiosity. He was deeply caring and compassionate, always bursting at the seams with love and enthusiasm. Being around people energized and inspired him. His love for children and animals was ever apparent as he would befriend them with ease. Alex rooted for the underdog and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who might need it. A more deeply loyal friend could not be found. Alex loved his people with all his might, leaving a deep hole in the hearts of so many.

Although Alex’s life met a premature end, his forty-one years were rich with adventure. He loved to travel and experience everything life had to offer, often finding himself in unexpected (and comical) situations. Alex had the uncanny ability to talk himself into rooms he likely didn’t belong in. But that was his “gift”. He never met a stranger and made friends so easily that the world sort of opened doors for him others would only dream of. He was a daredevil, never meeting an adventure he wasn’t willing to explore. Alex didn’t hold back- he wore his heart on his sleeve, and he was willing to live life to the fullest every day. That zest for life found Alex as a pseudo producer for an early music video for the recording artist, Jelly Roll. True story.

Alex loved diving into fantasy worlds, especially The Dune series and anything by Tolkien. He was a Star Wars fan, and the proud owner of an R2D2 popcorn maker. He was a dedicated member of Dad Strong of DeLand, a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local families and strengthening fatherhood. Creating a better world was important to Alex, and through his work with Dad Strong of DeLand, he made a lasting impact in his beloved community.

One of Alex’s most remarkable strengths was his ability to maintain his optimism and joy despite the hardships and trials of life. Alex fought hard for the clarity of sobriety, never to be defined by a struggle with alcohol, but rightfully deserving of admiration for his raw, honest, and courageous journey.

Alex is survived by his parents, Richard and Kathie Basso, his sister and brother Melissa Costa and Rick Jr. Basso, their spouses Steve Costa, and Chenin Basso, his nieces and nephews, Ava Scott, Finn Basso, Sydney and Jack Costa and his beloved Godson, Sawyer Davis. He is also survived by his girlfriend and love of his life, Haley Goebel. Alex comes from a very large family with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and “found family” as well. To Alex, family was everything.
