With deep sorrow and abiding hope, we remember the life of Anthony Andrew Tyler—known lovingly as Tony—who passed away on July 17, 2025, at the age of 62. A devoted husband, father, veteran, musician, and man of deep faith, Tony leaves behind a legacy of love, purpose, and unwavering devotion to both family and God.
Born in Modesto, California, Tony lived a life guided by four passions: faith, family, flight, and music. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Air Force and Navy Reserve (1981–1989), embodying a quiet strength and humble patriotism.
Tony’s love for aviation defined both his career and dreams. He began as an aircraft mechanic, rose to aircraft quality inspector, and found his dream job at Northrop Grumman in 1998. A member of its Aeronautics Club, Tony was restoring a vintage 1950 Piper airplane and working toward his pilot’s license—a lifelong goal reflecting his precision and passion. He also studied Aerospace at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
At the heart of Tony’s life was his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Tony was a gifted musician and joyful worshipper, often playing keyboard or guitar during church services. Whether in church or playing in a band, music was his praise and Jesus was his Lord and Savior.
Yet among all his roles and accomplishments, being a father was the one he cherished most. Tony poured his heart into fatherhood with pride. Tony shared the blessings of parenthood with Karen Tyler, the mother of their children, and partner in raising a family built on faith, resilience and love. His family were not just a part of his life—they were his life. He treasured finding joy in simple moments—movie nights, lessons in faith and history, or watching National Treasure or The Lord of the Rings together.
Tony is survived by Karen, the mother of their children; Kaitlyn, Drew (spouse Genna), Ellyn (spouse Jonathan), and Alyx. He is also survived by his siblings Bonnie, Audrey, Terry, Randy (spouse Jo), as well as extended family members. Tony is preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Howard Grabast.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in his name to Samaritan’s Purse and Tunnel to Towers.
Though he has left this world, Tony’s spirit soars ever higher. As Isaiah 40:31 reminds us:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…”
With wings as eagles, Anthony Andrew Tyler—our Tony—has taken flight.
