Bea Lacey

February 26, 1930 — November 12, 2025

Bea passed away peacefully at her home in DeLand, Florida, on November 12, 2025.

She was born February 26, 1930, in Slate Springs, Mississippi.

After graduating from high school, Bea attended a three-year nursing program in Houston, Mississippi. She married Bill shortly after completing her studies, and within the next three years they moved to Waycross, Georgia. After welcoming four children, the family later settled in Volusia County, where their final two children were born.

With Bill working for General Motors and often traveling during the week, Bea stayed busy managing the household and keeping up the children’s many activities. When their youngest child turned 13, Bea returned to nursing and spent the next 15 years serving patients at West Volusia Memorial Hospital.

Bea spoke often of her deep love for her church, Stetson Baptist, where she and Bill were devoted members for sixty-five years. She said their lives truly began when they joined the church and formed lifelong friendships. A cherished tradition was a monthly dinner group that rotated among members’ homes, always ending with spirited card games, which Bea continued to enjoy until just a week before her passing. Although most of that original group is now gone, the tradition continues every other week at the church.

Bea found great joy in working in her yard. She could often be found tending to her flower beds, digging in the soil, or fussing over persistent weeds.

She also loved sitting on her swing in the evenings, watching skydivers drift gracefully toward the ground. In that quiet place, she found peace and space for reflection.

Bea was preceded in death by her loving husband William Henry Lacey and daughter, Tia Renee Lacey. Her parents Lillian Parker and Walter C. Hitt. Siblings: Gladys McDade, Edward Hitt, Parker Hitt and Christine Hitt. The only living sibling is Ouida Currin who resides in North Carolina.

She is survived by her children Walter (Beverly), Mike (Joyce), Denise Davis (Jim), Mark (Monica Mendoza), Tammy Flowers (Scott “Red”), her grandchildren Sarah Preus (Jeff), Nick Davis, Lacey (Shawn), Jonathan (Jennifer), Logan (Tina), Justin Flowers (Jessica), Austin Davis (Ashley), Morgan Lacey, Lauren Lacey, Lawson Flowers (Kaitlyn), Chris Kemp (Amy), Bill Hinkey Jr. (Vicki), and her great grandchildren Nicky Davis, Weston Davis, Hudson Davis, Owen Davis, Teddy Davis, Olivia Lewis, Dean Lacey, June Lacey, Colson Flowers, Sutton Flowers, Teagan Flowers, Madeleine Preus, and Jackson Lacey.

To celebrate the life and love of Bea, the family will have a visitation on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, beginning at 9:30AM at Stetson Baptist Church in Deland, Florida, with a service following at 10:30AM. Bea will be laid to rest at Deland Memorial Garden in a private ceremony following the service.
