Freda "Buffy" Olin

July 16, 1942 — August 10, 2025

Buffy was born in Syracuse, New York, on July 16, 1942. She passed away at home surrounded by family and friends on August 10, 2025.

After attending Eastwood High School in Syracuse, at age 18, Buffy took an entry level position at Lockheed Martin where she worked for 34 years, retiring in 2003. By pursuing additional training, classes at Syracuse University, and company sponsored training she worked her way up to management and engineering. During her career, Buffy worked on several atomic submarines and finished her career in the Engineering Lab testing and building parts.

Buffy was always active in sports, participating in high school bowling, softball, and supporting her brothers as they played football. She also was a cross country skier. Loving the outdoors, Buffy was an avid camper, keeping a camp from her early 20’s until 5 years ago when she could no longer maintain it due to illness. In her 40’s, she took up golf and continued bowling. Any time she was not working, her time was spent on those two sports. After retiring, bowling became a full-time project. After moving to Orange City, Buffy joined the Woodchoppers Senior Mixed League, serving several years as Secretary and Treasurer. In addition she served on the board of the West Volusia chapter of the United States Bowling Congress.

Buffy was a talented artisan. Her artistic endeavors included leather work, silk screening, machine embroidery, stained glass, jewelry making, and woodworking. She had a shop where she sold embroidery and silk screen pieces and sold other items at various farmers’ markets.

Buffy’s parents and brothers Harvey, Duane, and James Olin are deceased. She is survived by her wife, Elaine Leahy and stepson Warren (Nick) Monahan, niece Cathy Spencer and husband Tim, and nephews Rick Olin, Michael Olin, Mark Olin and David Olin. She considered her friends from Emmaus Lutheran Church, from her bowling leagues, and golf leagues as family. Buffy loved life and always saw the good in everyone she encountered.

A Memorial Service will held at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 2500 South Volusia Avenue, Orange City, at 11:00 on Saturday, August 23, 2025. A light luncheon will be served after the service.
