Catherine "Cathy" Schaffer Fields, 64, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026 after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Born on December 5, 1961, in Jacksonville, Florida, Cathy was the beloved daughter of Warren and Zelma Schaffer. She graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1979 before earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Stetson University in 1983.

On June 4, 1983, Cathy married the love of her life and best friend, Greg Fields. Together they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and unwavering devotion to one another. They raised three sons, David (Kendra), Jeffrey (Amber), and Timothy (Lindsay), who were the pride of her life. Cathy is also survived by her sister, Suzy Rocha (Roger), six cherished grandchildren: Gabe, Theodore, Scarlett, Madelynn, Maverick, and Maxwell and mother in law, Helen Ferguson.

Cathy devoted her professional life to excellence in accounting. She began her career with Betty W. Kelly, C.P.A., then served for many years as Controller at Duvall Home. She later transitioned into law firm accounting, first with Shuffield Loman and ultimately with Dean Mead, where she joined the firm in May 2007 and faithfully served as Controller until her passing. Her integrity, dedication, and work ethic earned the admiration and respect of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Cathy embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She and Greg shared a love of music, attending concerts together, art shows, dining out and looked forward each year to their trips to Las Vegas. Long time season ticket holders and passionate supporters of the Florida Gators football, they rarely missed a game in Gainesville and enthusiastically cheered on every other Gator team throughout the year.

A gifted cook and tireless worker, Cathy somehow balanced a demanding career with caring for her family and home. Greg often referred to her as "the hardest working woman in America," a title she wore with quiet humility. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, gardening, and creating a warm, welcoming home.

More than anything, Cathy treasured being "Granny." Her grandchildren brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Whether she was playing games, swimming in the pool, spoiling them with gifts, or simply spending time together, she poured her whole heart into each moment. Her unconditional love and gentle spirit will remain with them always.

Cathy will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her steadfast friendship, her generous heart, and her remarkable work ethic. She touched countless lives through her kindness, strength, and quiet grace. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, the memories she created and the love she shared will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
