We’re heartbroken to announce the passing of Claire Walters on September 26. She was born February 2, 1957, in Syracuse, New York, one of the eleven children of the late Clarence and Wilhelmina Baker. Claire touched countless lives with her generosity, humor, and love of fun and will be truly missed by many.
There was nothing more important to Claire than her family. She delighted in spending time with them, from babysitting to cookouts to nights out dancing. She cherished her family and would do anything for any one of them. Claire’s life was an inspiration: she was an amazingly hard worker her entire life, showing enormous perseverance in becoming a nurse and building a successful career. After retirement, she was able to spend more time with her other love—plants. Claire worked as hard in her garden—and with as much joy—as she did in other aspects of her life. Claire’s warmth and compassionate spirit will be remembered forever.
She is survived by her companion, Ron, her siblings, nieces and nephews, children, and grandchildren.
A memorial for Claire will be held at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 East New York Avenue, DeLand, on Friday October 3 at 3:00 p.m. Friends and family may visit from 2:00 p.m. until the beginning of the service. A reception will follow at Nice-N-Easy Oyster Bar and Grille, 2109 North Volusia Avenue, Orange City.
In honor of her generous spirit, the family asks that donations be made to the Florida Guardian ad Litem Foundation or Central Florida Public Media.
