It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dennis McGuire, a cherished father, a beloved brother, dedicated public servant, and respected member of the DeLand community. Dennis passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, integrity, and love.
Born in Brooklyn NY, Dennis proudly devoted over 30 years of his life to the DeLand Police Department, where he served with honor, courage, and unwavering commitment. Throughout his distinguished career, he was more than just a law enforcement officer—he was a mentor, a leader, and a steady presence for those around him. His guidance shaped the lives of many within the department, and his dedication set an example for all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dennis was a cherished younger brother to Kevin James McGuire, a beloved father to his two sons, Kevin and Connor McGuire, who were the pride and joy of his life. He was a constant source of strength, wisdom, and love for the entire extended family, his spirit lives on in them. He was a caring uncle to his nieces and nephews, a great in-law and sibling.
Dennis will be remembered not only for his service but for the light he brought to those who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and steadfast nature touched the hearts of many. His quick wit and humor were a constant source of delight and comfort for all around him. The community he served so faithfully now mourns the loss of a man whose brightness can never be replaced but will always be remembered.
A celebration of Dennis's life will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 starting at 4:00 PM at the Wayne G. Sanborn Center in DeLand, FL, where friends, family, and colleagues are invited to honor his memory and legacy. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be directed to either the Police Explorers or PAL (Please note the one you wish to donate to on the envelope) in his memory.
