Frank L. Martin

January 21, 1941 — September 4, 2025

Frank Lee Martin passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025 in DeLand FL. He was born January 21, 1941 in Wheeling WV., in a taxi cab to Frank and Leah (Schlicher) Martin, a police chief and law clerk, he was an only child, with a mother, grandmother and spinster aunt who doted on him. The bigger challenge came after marrying into Linda's large and loving family, even after being warned.

As a high school and college graduate, Frank then went on to 42 years of dedicated work watching paint dry as a paint and coating specialist at Monsanto/Mobay/Bayer/Covestro in Robinson Twp, PA. He was also a Boy Scout leader and Red Cross Canoeing instructor. Frank’s brush with greatness came when in his college years he enjoyed sharing his trumpet talent when he played with Bobbie Vinton and his band. In later years, his passion for photography came by becoming a shutter bug for weddings, dance recitals, youth programs, and Church youth filled his time. Fishing was enjoyed at the water's edge from his green Kevlar canoe and spending time fly tying. Hunting was enhanced by crafting his own arrows. Canoeing in Algonquin Park in Canada and wilderness canoeing/camping on the Allagash in Maine with wife Linda and son John were a joy. Retirement was enjoyed on the golf course in Southern Pine/Pinehurst and volunteering for Kids Golf Championship was high on his list. Frank loved working with kids through scouting, and taking pictures of the youth's plays and filling candy bags for Easter egg hunts, etc. Last but far from least, Frank enjoyed playing pinochle, Mexican Train Dominoes, and other games with family & friends. His wit knew no bounds as wife Linda and the world would attest to. He loved training his special dogs and although not a cat lover the cat Kishu won his heart when his sister-in-law Joanne failed to follow through on her purchase.

Frank is survived by his loving wife Linda of 48 years; son John Martin of Pittsburgh PA, grandson Logan Martin & great-granddaughter Blaire, sisters-in-law Becky Nestor (Bill), Sue Tranter, brother-in-law Ronald Colangelo (DeeDee), cousins Gloria Martin, Myrna Martin (Agar), and Pam Ledgerber of Wheeling W VA., along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, and friends. Quoted often by Frank: Remember the 7 p's - prior proper planning prevents piss poor performance. Additionally Frank loved March 14th each year because of his sweet tooth.
