Glenda Jean "Jeanne" George joined Jesus in Heaven on September 1, 2025, in Deland, Florida. Born on March 14, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Glenn Carpenter and Josephine Stanley Carpenter, Jeanne faced the challenges of becoming a foster child at a young age. However, she was resolute in her pursuit of a better life for herself and her family, gaining invaluable lessons about hard work and the importance of education during her time in foster care.
Jeanne was an avid reader throughout her life. Even after her eyesight diminished, she found joy in listening to audiobooks and sharing them with family and friends. Her passion for literature inspired her children and grandchildren, imparting a lifelong love for the written word.
A devoted mother and cherished Nana, Jeanne displayed an impeccable sense of style in everything she did, from her elegant wardrobe choices to the warm and welcoming ambiance of her beautifully decorated home. Her genuine interest in others was apparent through her unwavering love and support for her family. Jeanne had a remarkable ability to inject fun into every gathering, delighting her loved ones with delicious meals and joyful laughter.
She emphasized the significance of manners and kindness towards others, instilling these values in her children through her own heartfelt interactions.
Jeanne's faith was the bedrock of her life, representing her greatest gift to her children and grandchildren. She began each day in prayer and cherished participating in Bible studies. Her devotion to scripture and her relationship with Jesus served as an exemplary model for her family. It brought her immense joy to know that each of her children knows Jesus as their Savior and that her grandchildren are being nurtured in Christian homes committed to a life centered on Christ.
With a lovely soprano voice, Jeanne praised God through song. She loved being a part of the church choir, relishing the fellowship as they joyfully lifted their voices in worship. Even in her later years, she would often break into song, wherever she was! She loved old hymns and listened to them for countless hours.
Although there are many cherished memories to share with her family and friends, Jeanne always expressed that her greatest legacy was her assurance of reuniting with her children and grandchildren in Heaven. We eagerly await that glorious day of reunion!
Jeanne is survived by her daughters: Cynthia Carrithers, D'Lee Baugh (Bradley), Robin Schaffernoth (Charles), Jane Grose (Andrew), Jean Bergren (Todd), and LeAnn Sanson; as well as her son, Douglas Carrithers (Nancy).
