Gregory Sponer

Gregory Melvin Sponer, born January 22, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on May 17, 2025. He was 58 years old. A proud United States Navy veteran, Greg served his country with honor and carried the values of loyalty, discipline, and service with him throughout his life. Those who knew him will remember his infectious laughter, his gentle heart, and the way he could light up any room with his humor and spirit. 

Greg was the life of every party, a man who found joy in the simple pleasures—fishing at sunrise, relaxing at the beach or pool, and cheering on his beloved Miami Dolphins every Sunday. His presence was magnetic, drawing people in with kindness, warmth, and a sincerity that left a lasting impact. 

Known for his generous heart, Greg never hesitated to help those around him. Whether offering a hand, a listening ear, or a laugh when it was needed most, he was always there. His willingness to give of himself—without question or condition—was one of his most enduring qualities. 

Above all, Greg was a devoted family man. He is survived by his former wife, Colette Stradford and their loving daughter Nicolette Plante, and Son- in-law, Benjamin Plante; his siblings Curtis Sponer, Lisa Hippelheuser (Karl), Christopher Sponer, and Joanna Sponer along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Sponer; and Josephine and Bud Eide. 

Greg worked hard, loved deeply, and laughed often. His legacy lives on in the memories shared by those who had the privilege to know and love him. Fair winds and following seas, Greg. You will be dearly missed.
