James "Bucky" Bradford Brock

James Bradford “Bucky” Brock, 84, of DeLand, Florida, passed away on August 20, 2026.

Bucky was born in DeLand on December 6, 1941, to Oren Bradford Brock and Evelyn Riley Brock. Known to everyone as Bucky, he will be remembered for his unmistakable red hair, wonderful sense of humor, generous heart, and genuine kindness toward others.

Bucky devoted his professional life to serving his community through a long career in criminal justice. Over the years, he worked as a police officer, probation officer, and pretrial release officer. His concern for others extended well beyond his career. He had a special place in his heart for children and was involved in many children’s causes, including the construction of Freedom Playground in DeLand.

He was a member of Stetson Baptist Church and an active participant in his Sunday School class. In his free time, Bucky enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and spending time at his sister’s farm in Kentucky. Above all else, his family was paramount. He loved his girls beyond measure, and they always knew how deeply they were cherished.

Bucky shared 37 years of marriage with his beloved late wife, Janet W. Brock, with whom he had three daughters. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Penny Noel Brock; his daughters, Ginger McCormick and her husband, Bobby; Heather Long and her husband, Jeff; and Roxane Mullins and her husband, Noel; his grandchildren, Bryanne McCormick, Logan McCormick, Whitney Long, Seth Long, Micah Mullins, and Curren Mullins; and Penny’s sons, Michael Noel and Cliff Noel.

He was a brother to Ruth Kalk, Barbara Wittman, Sharon Suter, Madeline Caldwell, and Elma Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Evelyn Brock, and his wife, Janet.

A celebration of Bucky’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Stetson Baptist Church.

Bucky’s humor, kindness, and love for people will be deeply missed, but the devotion he showed to his family and community will remain part of his enduring legacy.
