Linda Mary Schmid Douglas, age 72, of DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. A woman of intellect, creativity, and profound devotion to her family, she leaves behind a legacy defined by her love of literature and an adventurous spirit.
Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Linda moved to St. Louis, Missouri, as a youth, where she spent her formative years and built many lifelong memories. She eventually relocated to Florida, settling first in The Villages and then in DeLand to enjoy her later years. A gifted writer, she found great fulfillment in the craft of short stories, capturing the nuances of life through her prose. Her appreciation for the written word was matched by a lifelong passion for travel, through which she explored the world with curiosity and grace. She found great joy in the music and stories that defined her journeys, often sharing that warmth with those around her.
She worked at Intrav in St. Louis for many years and, also volunteered at Hope Animal Rescue based on her lifelong love of dogs.
Linda was the beloved wife of Tom Douglas, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage, and a life built on mutual respect and affection. She was the devoted mother of her daughter, Cassie Douglas. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Schmid, and his wife Kathy; and her sister, Lucy Kepros, and her husband Jim. Her memory will be cherished by her extended family and many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Maplewood United Methodist Church in St. Louis, Missouri. Burial and Committal Services will take place the following day, Thursday, April 9, at 11:00 AM at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
