Mary Ann Malewicz, age 92, of DeLeon Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on September 19, 2026.

Born on May 24, 1934, in Mansfield, Ohio, Mary Ann was the second of three daughters born to Henry Frederick Diskosky and Anna Mary Iglar. From an early age, she demonstrated the intelligence, determination, and compassion that would define her life.

Mary Ann was a devoted mother who dedicated herself to raising her children. When she earned her first driver's license in 1971, she embraced a new sense of independence and opportunity. Soon after, she began a career at the Kennedy Space Center, where she worked as a technician on the Space Shuttle program. She took great pride in her work and remained there until her retirement in 1989.

Faith was at the center of Mary Ann's life. She was a faithful member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and was especially proud to become a Daughter of the King. Her dedication to her church family was evident in countless ways. For many years, she lovingly handcrafted and displayed 24 wreaths throughout the church's memorial gardens during Easter, Memorial Day, and Christmas, carefully placing and collecting them for each season. She also volunteered with Faith at Work, helping provide food and assistance to those in need.

Mary Ann's kindness and generosity touched everyone she met. She never spoke unkindly of others and always sought the good in people. She had a gift for making others feel valued and loved. A talented crafter, she enjoyed creating dolls, quilts, and handmade gifts, often planning months in advance for the special items she would make for ministers, church staff, and shut-ins during the Christmas season.

She also had a passion for travel and was fortunate to explore many parts of the world alongside her daughter. Even on the morning of her passing, Mary Ann was looking forward to attending a Daughters of the King meeting and making Christmas gifts for others—a reflection of the servant-hearted spirit that remained with her throughout her life.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husbands, William Cory, to whom she was married for 30 years, and Ken Malewicz, to whom she was married for 27 years; her sisters, Shirley and Jean; and her parents, Henry Frederick Diskosky and Anna Mary Iglar.

She is survived by her son, William A. Cory; her daughter, Debra A. Hammond (Mac); three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

One of Mary Ann's favorite sayings was, "See you later, alligator." Her daughter would always reply, "Bye-bye, butterfly." To those who loved her most, Mary Ann was their butterfly. Though saying goodbye is never easy, her family finds comfort in imagining one final farewell: "Bye-bye, butterfly."

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A reception will follow the service. Mary Ann's ashes will be laid to rest in the church's memorial gardens, a place she lovingly cared for throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faith at Work program at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in honor of Mary Ann's lifelong commitment to serving others.
