New Smyrna

Misao Shinme Beckert, 94, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

Misao was born in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, December 16, 1930, and began her life’s journey with a spirit of grace, resilience, and curiosity. In 1961, she came to the United States, married and lived in Long Island, New York. The couple eventually settled in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, in 1966 where they built a life filled with warmth and cherished friendships. Misao proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1971.

An educated and accomplished woman, Misao worked as a Trust Administrator at the Bank of New Smyrna Beach, where her diligence and integrity earned the respect of all who knew her. Outside of her career, she found joy in simple yet meaningful pursuits — listening to classical music, especially opera, and sharing her love of Japanese cuisine. Her meals were more than food; they were expressions of culture, generosity, and love, enjoyed by all fortunate enough to sit at her table.

Her hobbies reflected her artistic nature and deep appreciation for beauty — from floral design and cultivating orchids to tending her bonsai trees in earlier years. Misao also loved her church community and found peace and purpose in her faith. A talented seamstress, she created beauty with her hands and her heart.

She leaves behind her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bobby Maddox, and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by her kindness and quiet strength. Misao was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George M. Beckert and her siblings and other family members in Japan.

Services of remembrance will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00A.M. at Beachside Baptist Church, 629 South Pine Street, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. Inurnment will follow later at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
