Patricia Ann Burger (née Smith), age 92, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in DeLand, Florida. Born on February 23, 1933, in Wampsville, New York, she lived a life marked by devotion to family, faith, and community service.
Patricia graduated from Oneida High School in Oneida, New York, and went on to attend the State University of New York at Potsdam. Her early years laid the foundation for a lifetime of learning and service. Throughout her adult life, Patricia was an active member of the Methodist church in each community she called home. In DeLand, she was a devoted member of DeLand First United Methodist Church.
A loving wife to her late husband Harley Franklin Burger, Patricia was also a dedicated mother to six children: David Burger; Nancy (David) Sousa; Carol Burger Weinman; Barbara (Ed Brown) Burger; Harley (Rowena) Burger Jr.; and Anne (Majester) Abdul-Jalil. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren: David Burger Jr., Carol (Jordan) Davies, Jennifer Burger, Aldo Burger; Mateo (Jennifer) Sanchez-Sousa; Sean (Fallon) Weinman, Jenna (Ryan) Seabeck; Elena Burger, Melissa Burger; and Maryam, Majester, and Zakariya Abdul-Jalil and her twelve great-grandchildren. Patricia also is survived by her older brother Wallace (Connie) Smith.
Patricia was preceded in death by her daughter Carol; her parents John C. and Cecile V. Lyon Smith; and her siblings Marion Jones, Elsie Parker, Dorothy Haberle, Ernestine Morgan, Jerald Smith, and Reginald Smith.
Together with her husband Harley, Patricia found joy in organizing the Bell Ringers for the annual Salvation Army Red Kettle campaigns—a tradition that reflected their shared commitment to helping others. She also gave generously of her time through The Woman's Club of DeLand and Rotary and other community efforts that enriched the lives of those around her.
Patricia’s life was one of quiet strength and enduring faith. Her dedication to service— whether through church activities or charitable outreach—left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be remembered not only as a devoted wife and mother but also as someone who gave selflessly to her community.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
