Peter David Chmielnik, lovingly known as Dave, was born in Nyack, New York, and raised in Congers, New York. He passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in DeLand, Florida.
At the age of 18, Dave answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. He proudly served for three years as a radio operator, where he became highly proficient in Morse code. Upon his honorable discharge, he was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Parachutist Badge, and the Expert Rifle Award—honors that reflected his dedication and skill.
After his military service, Dave lived in several states, including Arizona and Georgia, before eventually settling in Seattle, Washington. There, he spent many years working for Boeing as a parts analyst and engineer. His career with Boeing gave him the opportunity to travel extensively and visit many countries, experiences he deeply valued.
Dave lived life with enthusiasm and humor. He loved golfing, fishing, riding motorcycles, listening to music, and watching sports—especially cheering on his beloved Seattle Seahawks. Known for his great sense of humor, Dave loved telling jokes and hearing them; laughter truly was his forte. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, and they adored him just as much. Most of all, Dave cherished time spent with his family and friends, and he especially enjoyed family vacations and yearly reunions, which will never be the same without him.
Dave is survived by his daughters, Lauren Lacourse and her husband Zack, and Lindsey Willey and her husband Mickey; his sisters, Debbie Chmielnik-Ferguson, Cindy Johnston, and Donna Vescera; and his brother, Daniel Chmielnik. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Hazelanne, Sage, Skylar, and Cabella, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Brown and Peter Chmielnik; his sister, Julianne Delflore; and his brother, Doug Chmielnik.
Dave will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him. His family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating his life on February 21st at 2:00 p.m. at DeLand Eagles, 1330 Yorktown St., DeLand, Florida.
