Robert D. Davis

On September 27, 2023, Robert D. Davis, 92 and a resident of DeLand, Florida for 46 years, passed away in the Halifax Health Hospice in Orange City, Florida. He dedicated his life to his family, his work, his church, and his community.
He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He entered as an enlisted man but, after 14 years received an officer’s commission. He had two tours working in the Pentagon, one in the office of the Chief of Naval Intelligence. He retired from active service in 1969 to pursue first a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in accounting at the University of Georgia in order to begin a new career as a teacher.
He taught accounting courses at Valdosta State College, West Georgia College, and Southeast Missouri State University before moving to Deland to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He continued to work as an accountant into his 90s.
He also served in the community and church. He was active in the Deland Lions Club and at one time served as president. He served in leadership positions in the Deland Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He loved to travel and, with his wife Jeanette, visited Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. While in the Navy, he and Jeanette and their children lived in or near navy bases in Japan, Panama, California, Tennessee, and Florida. In his later years, he enjoyed watching military shows on television and reminiscing about his time in the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, and his children - son, Richard (Molina) of Deland, Florida and Orem, Utah, and daughter, Kathleen (Ed) of North Richland Hills, Texas. He is also survived by his younger sister, Patricia of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service to celebrate Robert D. Davis's life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1345 Aquarius Ave.) on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11 am.
May Robert D. Davis rest in peace, surrounded by the love of his family and the gratitude of a grateful community.
