Shawn Carl Cook

Shawn Carl Cook, 53, passed away in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on June 6, 2025, after a brief illness. He was born on April 22, 1972, in Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), Texas. Shawn was a 1990 graduate of DeLand High School and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science on May 1, 2004. A sports fan, he especially loved his Florida Gators, Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay Lightning, and FC Barcelona. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and watching sports. Shawn could tell a tale better than almost anyone, and he loved to make people laugh. His clever wit and ever-present sense of humor was a gift to those who knew him. Shawn’s pride and joy was his son, Zachary. He was a dedicated dad who loved watching Zach grow into a terrific young person. Playing cards and watching Psych with Zach were favorite pastimes.

Shawn is preceded in death by his dad, Richard, and his stepmother, Rita. He is survived by his son, Zachary; mother, Paula Staudt and stepfather, Jim Staudt; Wendy Hearn; sister, Shannon Cook and brother-in-law, Barton Hanna, as well as beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 19 at 1:00pm at First Christian Church, 1401 West New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida with reception following. Donations in memory of Shawn may be made to Ameriprise FBO (for benefit of) Zachary Cook and mailed to 1560 Corner Crossing Road, DeLand, FL 32720.
