On September 12th, 2025, at 05:00am, Sibyl Gayle Pangle (Crenshaw) took her final breath and passed peacefully to God’s eternal Grace where there awaited her loving husband, Bob. Known as Gay to all who knew her, or perhaps Gram, her three sons stood there beside her and in her final days she was surrounded by loving family and the kind support of hospice staff. As she approached this time of passing, she also took great comfort in reaching out to, or hearing from, those important in her life. She truly only wanted to be sure each person knew how important they were to her.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mildred Crenshaw (Gulley), her brother Noel Eugene Crenshaw, her father Noel Crenshaw, and her stepmother Maude Crenshaw.
She is survived by son Keith Pangle and his wife Cyndi (Gordy) – of DeLand Florida, their two sons, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, son Curtis Pangle and his wife Annie (Mack)– of Gainesville Florida, along with their daughter Caroline – of Nashville Tennessee, and son Glen Pangle and his wife Kira (Small)– of Nashville Tennessee. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann Crenshaw (Boone), and her son Kevin both of Houston Texas.
Born on February 2nd, 1939, in Wichita Falls Texas. She later moved to Houston Texas where she graduated from John H Reagan High School, class of 1957. She was both Vice President of Christian Student Union and a member of the Future Homemaker of America Club. She was an active member of Baptist Temple in the Heights area of Houston where she later married her husband Bob and where a 50th anniversary celebration occurred. Her college years were spent in Abilene Texas, at Hardin Simmons University, where she was the Social Chairman of The Chowhands as well as the Secretary of the Young Women’s Auxiliary. It was while serving meals in The Chowhands, where she saw Bob Pangle, and only love and a life together followed.
Gay and Bob were married at Baptist Temple on February 6, 1960. In addition to Houston, their homes were also in Corpus Christi Texas, Tulsa Oklahoma, Katy Texas, and DeLand Florida though she liked to tell the story of how many places she and Bob lived in the first year or two of their married life.
As they raised their family, each of these homes was a place where love of family was truly felt and visible. Gay was the mom getting kids where they needed to be, hers, those in the neighborhood, on the team of whatever was in season, classmates, friends, you name it. Her table never held an empty seat if friends or family were available. As to family, each of her sons can attest to friendships that led to others being welcomed in as her own and this is a generational comment spanning her lifetime. If you knew Gay, you heard countless stories of her boys, her granddaughter, and those other friends/families. Those blessed to be her friend knew only kindness, love and laughter.
Gay was steadfast in supporting Bob in his professional days at Amoco, during his many endeavors to promote folk and bluegrass music, and in his later years simply looking after him with love. Most would say she ‘looked after’ or ‘put up’ with him each year of their lives together. She would never accept or admit the fact that she was an accomplished dulcimer player, though it is true.
The family offers their deepest thanks to the Council on Aging team, Indra, Tyresa, and Kimberly, that provided support, love, and companionship to both Bob and Gay along with the VITAS hospice caregivers that allowed the family to keep both Bob and Gay at home in their last days, surrounded by family and friends.
A celebration of life will occur on October 6th, 2025, at Lankford Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed right here.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to organizations supporting home hospice care, or for those affected by dementia or cancer. More importantly, they ask that you find ways to show those you love in your life exactly what they mean to you.
The family would like to ask everyone to leave their favorite memory of Gay, so that they may see everyone's stories and share in the beauty of those memories.
