Dixie Lee Nicholson, a beloved presence in the hearts of many, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 9th, 2023. Born in Seymour, Indiana on July 2nd, 1938, Dixie's journey touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Dixie's story began in Columbus High School, where she graduated, carrying with her the seeds of kindness and generosity that would define her life. She dedicated herself to making a difference in her community through her involvement with the Shrine Guild. Her unwavering commitment was evident as she collected donations weekly at the Deland Flea Market, a testament to her caring spirit. Dixie cherished her time at Shine meetings and dinners, where she found joy in the camaraderie and shared the purpose of the group. Her devotion extended to her church, where she actively participated in various events, leaving an indelible mark on those around her.

Sports ignited a spark in Dixie's heart, and she was an avid enthusiast of all sports. Her passion for NFL and college football was particularly contagious, spreading to those who were lucky enough to watch a game with her. Alongside her love for sports, Dixie's heart was dedicated to her cherished donkeys and her faithful dog, Annie, who provided her with companionship and unwavering loyalty.

Dixie's life was a tapestry woven with love, and her family held a special place in her heart. She now joins her loved ones who preceded her in death, including her mother, Margaret (Polly) Whitson, her father, her husband Jack Nicholson, and her son Monty Lee Nicholson. As she journeys onward, Dixie leaves behind a legacy that will forever be carried by her son Moreland Lee Nicholson (Stephanie), granddaughter Mindy Leigh Kerr, Stacey Lee Kerr, and great-granddaughter Madyson Renee Southgate.

To honor Dixie's life and the warmth she brought into the lives of those around her, a service will be held on Saturday, August 26th, at 3:00 PM at Deland Wesleyan Church, 250 N Hill Ave, Deland, FL 32724. Following the service, a dinner will be hosted, allowing friends and family to gather and remember Dixie's spirit in a setting that she would have cherished.

Dixie Lee Nicholson's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her kindness, love for life, and dedication to family and community are a legacy that will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
