James Larry Stephens
James Larry Stephens passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours on November 3, 2021, at the age of 86. He was born in Perry, FL on September 11, 1935, and most recently resided in DeLand, FL. Larry attended the United States Naval Academy, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida. He later earned a Master of Science in Business Management from the Florida Institute of Technology. Larry spent most of his engineering career with NASA during the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. Together with his wife, Yvonne, he also built a successful business as the owner and operator of several Hallmark shops in the Central Florida area.
Larry was passionate about Florida football and his beloved Gators. He enjoyed camping in the Great Smoky Mountains and loved being together with family, and being “Pappy” to his grandchildren (Kaitie, Kevin, Joshua, Jessica and Julia) and his great grandchildren (Frank and Leslie). Larry was a long time member of the Church of Christ. He did not really pursue any hobbies, but filled his life with faith and family.
Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leroy and Eula Stephens, his brothers Glenwood and Frank Stephens, and his sister Eloise Marlow. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Yvonne Moon Stephens, and his devoted daughters, Lisa McDermott and Sue Hagins.
