Jane Simpson, 99, died peacefully at home on February 1, 2022. Jane was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 23, 1922 to Oliver Charles (“Bill”) and Ruby (Breuleux) Muchmore. She married Roger B. Simpson on March 12, 1946 in Hartwell, Ohio. Jane is survived by her four children, Nancy Kinsley of DeLand, FL; John (Barbara) of Easton, PA; Kenneth (Alisa) of St. Louis, MO; and Mark (Kim) of New Brighton, MN; by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, by her brother James Oliver (“Jim”) Muchmore and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, and son-in-law, Kim Kinsley.

Jane completed nurses’ training at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati after which she placed fourth in the Ohio State Nurses’ Board examination. She received a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College in 1948, and a master’s degree in biology from the University of Iowa in 1969. During the early 1950s, Jane and her family served for four years on the mission field in Japan. True to herself and her beliefs, Jane dedicated her life to her family and church, sharing her brilliant mind, love of learning and curiosity about people and places near and far; her thoughtful, constant caring for others and a genuine commitment to health and well-being; her love of nature and the outdoors, and her sense of adventure and fearlessness in traveling to explore the world. After raising her family, she worked as a nurse then as a genetics counselor at the University of Iowa where she co-authored the seminal text, Chromosomes of Man, with Dr. Hans Zellweger (1977). She enjoyed music throughout her life, playing clarinet and piano. During retirement she learned to play a cello that Roger made by hand for her. She was a Christian throughout her life, most recently as a member of the First Presbyterian Church, DeLand where she served as a Deacon and an active member of Dorcas Circle. She will be interred along with Roger at Graham Presbyterian Church, North Vernon, IN. Memorial gifts are welcome to First Presbyterian Church,724 N.
