Lance Fred Borows Sr.

1941 - 01/18/2021

On Monday, January 18, 2021, Lance F Borows Sr. of Deland, FL passed away at the age of 79 after a long, courageous battle with leukemia. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 57 years, Arlene Downing Borows. Lance was born in 1941 in Brooklyn, NY to Kurt and Elizabeth Borows, Sr. and lived in Valley Stream, NY before they moved to Miami, FL in 1949.

As a child, Lance attended Delaney Elementary, when his family moved to the Ferncreek area of Orlando. He then went to Robert E. Lee Middle School and Howard Junior High when his family moved to the College Park area of Orlando. He graduated from Edgewater High School and continued on to Orlando Junior College.

Lance enjoyed a long, successful career as a Grant's Department Store manager until the company came to an end in 1975. Over the years, his career took him and his family from several locations in Florida to Virginia and Georgia. After Grant’s, Lance moved his family to Seminole County, FL, and became a successful carrier for the then Orlando Sentinel Star for the next 22 years. Through all the moves, Lance always put family first and even made time to coach his son’s middle school football team. He and his family eventually settled in Volusia County, FL.

After the Sentinel, Lance began a third career, as a Deputy Sheriff with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. At the age of 55, he became a uniformed Road Patrol Deputy, a Corrections Officer for the Seminole County Sheriff, and served as a Deputy for the Seminole County Courthouse. Before his career came to a close, Lance had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

In retirement, Lance and Arlene spent several years exploring the country in their RV, making a point to see the beauty in every state and Canadian province. They invited many family members and friends to join them on their adventures, creating unforgettable memories along the way. They also spent time at their property in Blairsville, GA, often with their friends and neighbors, George and Beth.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rev. Kurt Borows, Jr. In addition to his wife Arlene, he is survived by his son Lance Borows, Jr. and wife Lisa, daughter Debra Morris and husband Raymond, grandchildren Erica Elek, Darlene Gilreath, Robert Borows, Rob Morris, Rachel Morris, and Sarah Morris, and nephew Kurt Borows III.
