Michael “Duane” Godfrey, 61 of Orange City, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 22, 2021 following a long illness. Duane was born on January 27, 1960 to Benny and JoAnn (Kersey) Godfrey in Palatka, Florida.


In 1969, the family moved to DeLand where he grew up and later met his high school sweetheart Pamela “Pam” Costa. Upon graduation from DeLand High School, Duane enlisted in the U.S. Army. After completing basic training, Duane and Pam married on December 20, 1980 at the home of Duane’s parents and were stationed in Bayonne, New Jersey until Duane’s discharge in 1984 at which time they returned to Florida.


Duane and Pam were long-time residents of Orange City having moved to the area in 1988. Most recently, he was employed in the Utilities Department for the City of DeLand. Previously, he was the owner of Duane’s Sunshine Cleaning, a carpet cleaning business that he ran and managed for over 10 years with a loyal following.


Duane loved football including the DeLand Bulldogs, Miami Dolphins and Florida State Seminoles.


Duane was preceded in death by his father Benny B. Godfrey and his sister Lisa Goodroe.


Duane is survived by his wife Pam, children Shana Walker and Mike Godfrey (Helena) and grandchildren Jacob Walker, Alexis “Lexi” Walker and Isabella “Bella” Godfrey. Also his mother JoAnn Godfrey, and siblings Lori Suellau (David), Wade Godfrey (Jan) and Kathi Godfrey.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021 between the hours of 1:00-4:00 pm in the Lemon Room at 230 N. Stone St. in DeLand, Florida.
