Richard (Dick) Hall Sr., age 90, of DeLand, died Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society/Florida Lutheran Center in DeLand, Florida. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Lankford Funeral Home, East New York Ave, DeLand at 11:00 am.


Dick was born April 11, 1932 in Mineola, New York. He married the love of his life, Joan Fromm, on September 13, 1953 in Elmont, New York.


After completing his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy as a Corpman, Dick went on to graduate from the University of Florida in 1960 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He moved his family to DeLand in 1965 to take a position with Florida Transformer Company Dick later worked for NCR Corporation. In 1977 he became owner of Smith Feed and Seed Co. in DeLand. In addition to the nursery and feed store, he brought in the John Deere franchise. In 1983 he opened a second John Deere equipment dealership, Pioneer Farm and Garden, Inc. in Ormond Beach, which also included Honda Power equipment. In 1985 he established Pioneer Pest Services, Inc., still located on Old Daytona Rd, DeLand.


Dick served as a Director with the Volusia County Fair Association for 25 years. He was also involved in the DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce and the Engineering Counsel. Dick loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping and scuba diving and traveled extensively. He was very proud of his family and loved to share stories of them and their adventures with his friends and acquaintances. No one loved his family more than he did.


Dick is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joan; their three children: Rick Hall Jr. (Leslie) of DeLand, Terry Sue Wallace (Rob) of DeLeon Springs, and Joie McGee (Scott) of Green Cove Springs, Florida; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
