Betty Jane Murphy, 95, of Deland, Florida passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022.

Betty was born June 29, 1926 to William C. and Bessie VanBrunt Harden in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the youngest of 5 children.


At a young age, Betty and her family moved to Miami, Florida where she spent her childhood, attended Miami Edison High, began her career at Pan American Airways, and married Cecil L. Murphy, Jr. (“Murph”), in 1948 in Coconut Grove, Florida.


Betty and Murph resided in Fort Lauderdale, FL where they raised their two daughters, Janet and Patricia, and in 1984 they relocated to Deland, FL.


Betty most enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered fondly as a person who loved and cherished people. She was a loving and beautiful soul, a caregiver to all who knew and loved her. She also enjoyed travel, music, reading, sewing, and delighted in the beauty of nature.


Betty is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Cecil L. Murphy, Jr., and is survived by her two daughters; Janet Staton of Deland, Patricia McKay of Denver, CO; Son-in-law Lester Staton of Deland; Grandchildren: Karen Warnick of Marietta, GA, Matthew Staton of Tampa, FL

Great grandchildren: Mallory Warnick and Kellen Warnick of Marietta, GA

Niece: Connie Belon of Redmond, WA; Nephews: Arthur Bowes of St. Augustine, FL, Ronald Bowes, Maui, HI
