Boyd Otto Mesch

Boyd Otto Mesch

1/14/2022

Boyd Otto Mesch of Deltona, Florida passed away on January 14, 2022, with his children at his bedside.

Boyd was born January 2, 1927, in Springville, NY to the late Otto and Edna (Button) Mesch.

Boyd was a dairy farmer and loved farming for 40 plus years. Boyd and Vivian, his wife for 53 years, bought their farm in Perrysburg in 1953 where they raised their four children. They both retired to Deltona, Florida in 1992. Boyd was the example of “You can take the man off the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the man!” Even after retiring Boyd and Vivian would return to the farm for the summer months to help on the farm.

Boyd enjoyed socializing with his neighbors on his morning walks, gardening in his back yard and playing croquet with family and friends in Florida.

Boyd is survived by his children Sally (Rick) Patchin, Carol Gugino and Tim Mesch; grandchildren Jennifer, Kimberly, Anthony, Bethany, Jonathan and Devin; and great grandchildren Scarlett, Weston and Caleb. Besides his parents, Boyd was predeceased by his wife Vivian, son Charles, grandson Brandon, great granddaughter Virginia and two siblings.

Interment will be in Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus, NY on August 6th at 11:00am.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on August 6th at 1pm. It will be held at the homestead located at 10100 County Road, Perrysburg, NY.

Donations in Boyd’s name may be made to Perrysburg Fire Department, 12006 Main St, Perrysburg, NY 14129 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

They were like the "granddads" of the block. Boyd was always the sweetest of the three men. Years later, in 2020 I had the privilege of reconnecting with Boyd in a deeper way and meeting Sally; helping her out in between visits with him, not that Boyd ever wanted that, but he appreciated the company. When he fell and broke his hip, I was beside myself that my phone ringer was off when Sally was trying to get a hold of me. I'll always re…

Meeting Boyd in the later years of his life here in FL was a great joy and privilege. My friend Bonnie Thurman introduced us and he was such a delight to get to know on so many levels. I have to say getting to play crocket with him and Anna will always be a great memory and will always stay with me. I even beat him once but he quite the swing. I am sure you all have such fantastic and wonderful memories of him and your Mom. I just wish I had the chance to spend even more time with him but that wasn't part of God's plan for his life or mine. I also appreciated getting t…
