1/23/2024

Jessica C. Hasty, born on January 4, 1962, in Panama City, Florida, passed away on January 23, 2024, in Orlando, Florida.

Born blind, she had an operation to improve her vision to legally blind when she was young. Jessica's spirit shone brightly, and she became a self-taught tech enthusiast. She achieved a significant milestone by graduating from A. Crawford Mosley High School in Panama City, Florida in 1980. Her tenacity extended to the martial arts arena, where she earned her 2nd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Known for her keen interest in technology, Jessica made it a point to tune in every week to Leo Laporte's The Tech Guy TV and podcast show. She was an active member of the Daytona Beach chapter of the National Federation of the Blind, where she found a community of like-minded individuals who shared her passion for overcoming challenges.

Beyond her pursuits, Jessica was a devoted animal lover, particularly fond of her feline companions. Her love for the fantastical extended to Star Wars, Marvel, and Doctor Who, with a Halloween tradition of dressing up as Doctor Strange.

Jessica is predeceased by her father J.C. Hasty and her mother Frances Hasty.

Jessica is survived by her sister Jacqueline Groton (Henry), other family members, and numerous friends whom she considered family. Their lives were enriched by her presence and the warmth of her heart.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave, DeLand, Florida 32724. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the same location.

Jessica will be laid to rest in Panama City, Florida at a later date, where her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace.

“Gone from my life forever, but never gone from my heart. As long as we live, they too will live; for they are now a part of us as we remember them. There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart.”
