Karen Deese Rando

7/14/2023

Karen Deese Rando, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on July 14, 2023, in DeLand, FL. She was born on September 26, 1966, in South Florida, and her radiant presence touched the lives of all who knew her.

Karen led a fulfilling life, leaving a positive impact on her community and those she encountered. In the early to mid-2000s, she was an active member of the DeLand Chamber of Commerce while managing her cherished children's shop, Pawsenclaws, in downtown DeLand. Later, she took the helm as Vice President of Jon Ric Salon & Spas, where her leadership and dedication were commendable. She further expanded her horizons by graduating from Florida Career College with a degree in medical front office and billing, demonstrating her passion for personal growth and education.

A nurturing and inspiring figure, Karen shared her wisdom as a teacher and PE coach at First Presbyterian in DeLand, making a positive impact on the young minds she encountered. She also contributed to Volusia County Public Schools as a substitute teacher, further exemplifying her commitment to education.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Karen held a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought her joy. She found solace in horseback riding, found amusement in British TV shows, and channeled her creativity through crocheting. Her warm heart extended to her family, friends, and animals, as she dedicated herself to saving stray animals and offering her services as a dog walker and sitter. In her youth, she was even the coach for t-ball teams, showcasing her unwavering support for children and their growth.

Karen's family was the center of her world, and her love knew no bounds. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion cherished by her: daughters Kelsey Blas (Stephen) and Leah Rando, son Cameron Rando (Danielle), father Henry Pownall (Harriett), and grandchildren Archer Blas, Nixon Blas, Levi Blas and Carmyn Rando. She was preceded in death by her mother, Giesla Pownall.

Karen's spirit will live on through her wise words, as she often reminded her loved ones to skip in life because "you can never skip and be sad." Her infectious positivity and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew her.

A service to honor and celebrate Karen Deese Rando's life will be held on Thursday August 3 at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in DeLand. Following the service, a joyful celebration of her life will take place at the same location, where family and friends will come together to remember the light she brought into their lives.
