Mary Janet "Jan" Pugh

8/21/2023

Mary Janet "Jan" Pugh, 84, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2023, in Edgewater, FL.

Jan Pugh was born on May 2, 1939 in Woodbury, TN, to Dorothy and Sterling Davenport. The Davenport family subsequently moved to south Florida to take advantage of teaching opportunities in Dade County.

Jan graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School in 1957. She started her career in the banking industry and retired after 36 dedicated years as Executive Assistant To Stetson University's Dean of the Business School. Jan was affectionately called "Deanette". She loved her job, especially working with many students, often forming friendships lasting well past their college years.

Jan married James "Jim" Pugh on December 15, 1973 in Emerald Hills, FL. In 1976 they moved to DeLand, FL. Jan and Jim promptly joined Stetson Baptist Church. They were steadfast in their faith and remained active members until each could no longer attend. Jan was a loving and loyal wife of 39 years spending many as caregiver through Jim's long and tenuous battle with diabetes. Jim passed in May 2013.

Jan blessed the lives of her family and friends. She constantly wore a smile, had a wonderful sense of humor, was thoughtful and kind while tirelessly giving her time and efforts to others. Throughout her lifetime, Jan's love for her pets knew no bounds. She felt blessed to reside in DeLand enjoying everything this town offered...especially the parades! She loved NASCAR and enjoyed watching her Hatters, Seminoles, Bulldogs and Buccaneers. Above all, Jan loved to bask in the sun on the Florida beaches.

Jan was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister, Nancy Brander. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Marlene) Thomas, of New Smyrna Beach, Teresa (Kevin) Gouin of Jacksonville and Douglas James (Nikki) Pugh, of Port Richey, her grandchildren, Dr. Chris (Elizabeth) Rae, Kyrie (Dr. Perry) Johnson, and Melissa Mary Sandifer, her great grandchildren, Cameron Cancalon, Claire Johnson, Waylen Rae, Isla Johnson, and Kinsley Rae, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

There will be a gathering of friends and family on Wednesday September 13, 2023 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Lankford Funeral Home. The address is 220 E. New York Ave, DeLand, FL, 32724.

She will be buried with her beloved Jim on Thursday September 14, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery. The address is 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made in Jan's name to VITAS Hospice Volusia/Flagler, Stetson Baptist Church or Volusia County Humane Society.
