Robert C. (Mac) MacKenzie

12/3/2022

Robert C. (Mac) MacKenzie, age 82, passed away Saturday December 3, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife Ella B. (Tootsie) MacKenzie.

Born in Norwood, Mass., where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Stoughton High School in 1957. He met the love of his life (Tootsie) in 1960 and married her 6 months later on April 29, 1961. They moved to Brockton Mass where they had three loving daughters. They went on a vacation to Daytona Beach, and loved it so much, they decided to move to Florida in 1972, where they continued to work, and raise their children.

He was an amazingly STRONG man and the “Jack of all trades”. His occupations included mechanic, heavy equipment operator, construction & masonry, with his final job as superintendent for Volusia County School system, which he retired from.

He also enjoyed repairing and constructing, helping others, and teaching his girls how to repair, construct and fix things. His favorite hobby of all was making sure his loving wife and daughters were happy and taken care of and “just tinkering”.

He loved traveling and going to the beach on weekends with his wife and girls. He also enjoyed boating, attending sporting events such as multiple Daytona 500’s, numerous football games, along with other sporting events with his wife, girls, and grandchildren. His travels included vacations to England, Hawaii, St Croix, Niagara Falls, The Grand Canyon, and multiple cruises with his loving wife.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Pamela Peerless (husband Mike) of Ormond Beach, Donna Davidson of Palm Coast, and Michelle Chartrand (husband George) of Orange City; 5 grandchildren, Jacqueline McWhirter, Brittany Zoller, Lee Vickers, Michelle Peerless, and Christine Peerless; 9 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the husband of the late Ella B. (Tootsie) MacKenzie; brother of the late Ann MacKenzie Mann; and son of the late Charles M. MacKenzie and Helen Matheson.

A celebration of life will take place at Lankford Funeral Home in Deland, Florida, on January 9, 2023 (which would have been his 83rd birthday) @ 11:00am.
