Sylvia Fala Fisher, a beloved member of the Deland, Florida community, passed away on October 13, 2023, at Parkside Health and Rehab in Deland. She was born on November 21, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Italian immigrants, (Joseph and Maria Fala or Notaresco, TE, Italy). Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband Douglas Fisher of over 60 years, Her daughter, Allison (Fisher) Williams and Her son, Dwayne Fisher. She is survived by her grandsons, Brandon Williams(31) and Dylan Williams (28). She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Fala (95) and numerous nieces and nephews.


She and her family moved to DeLand, FL early in life. Sylvia was a woman of extraordinary accomplishments and unwavering dedication. She, along with her husband Douglas, was the owner and operator of Pondos, a renowned fine dining Italian restaurant in DeLand, from 1980 to 2000. Her culinary skills and passion for Italian cuisine brought joy to countless patrons.


Sylvia was not only a culinary maven but also an active member of her community. She was involved in numerous organizations, including the Women's Network, the Democratic Party Committee, and the Chamber of Commerce. Her commitment extended to the local school district, where she made significant contributions, leaving a lasting impact.


Cooking was more than a profession for Sylvia; it was her deepest passion. She shared her love for cooking by providing classes on pasta making and culinary arts to young children, leaving an indelible mark on the next generation of chefs. Her involvement in the political community showcased her dedication to making a difference in the world around her.


Sylvia is survived by her grandson, Brandon Williams (31), her elder brother, Joseph Fala (95), numerous nieces and nephews, and her loving grandson, Dylan Williams (28). Her warmth, wisdom, and love touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.


A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on Saturday November 11, 2023 in the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church at 319 W Wisconsin Ave, DeLand, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local children's culinary education program or a charity of your choice in Sylvia's memory.


Sylvia Fala Fisher will be remembered as a passionate chef, a dedicated community member, and a beloved family member. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing in her life's journey.
