The month of May brings forth a mix of emotions. It can be a season of Change, Rebirth, and Sorrow for some.
We have been at the forefront of consoling mothers this year. And as we reflect on Mother's Day and honoring women in our lives this month, we know the impact it has had on our community. But nothing leaves a vacancy greater than a mother who has lost a child.
In the past year, we have seen the pain and sorrow of many mothers. We have honored the lives of the sweet babies who passed without taking their first breath to the unnatural loss of an adult "child." We know, that no one gets over the loss of a child.
The death of a child is felt by all, but not as deeply as a mother's heart. This month our hearts unite with every mother that has lost a child. May this season of change be easy on your soul.
If this is the first year without your mom or the loss of someone close to you, find a way to honor their memory. Whether it is continuing a tradition you shared, writing a letter to her, or gathering with others who grieve her loss.
This month, I reflect on my mother. She passed away on March 8th, 2006. I remember the day I began going through her things. I opened the bottom drawer of a dresser that she kept in another room, and there, I found that she kept every single card I had given her! Years of cards, years of loving messages. Tears filled my eyes to think that my mom saved every one of those cards I so carefully chose. To this day, I still remember all she did for me and the life lessons that she taught me.
We remember our mothers this month. The ones we have, the ones we have lost, and the moms whose angels are not on this earth to see and experience the fullness of the changing of seasons in our lives.
No matter where you are in your life, turn May into a month of reflection, hope, and healing.
Life is precious, and we can see its beauty and transformation this month with the changing of the season.
